Everyone knows that Glee is the hottest new show on Fox.  Each week's show features great musical takes on classic and modern hits as well as show stopping numbers from some of the greatest Broadway shows of all time.

A few weeks ago Fox released The Music, Volume 1: Glee Cast: Music, which features music from the the first half of the show's inaugural season.

A Moment of Silence for Dollhouse 11/13/2009

Picture
After roller coaster ratings and hopeful DVR numbers, DollHouse has been cancelled.  The show, created by Joss Whedon and inspired (and produced) by the muse-like Eliza Dushku, told the story of Echo, a young woman who enlists in the Dollhouse, a mind control facility (and sometimes brothel) that programs their doll operatives with mission-specific skills.

More coverage after the jump.

Five Veterans of the Future 11/11/2009

Today is Veterans Day, an annual American holiday honoring military veterans.   The holiday was originally called Armistice Day and was meant to honor veterans from World War I.  President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the first Armistice Day for November 11, 1919 and Congress passed a concurrent resolution seven years later on June 4, 1926, requesting the President issue another proclamation to observe November 11 with appropriate ceremonies.  On May 13, 1938, Armistice Day was made a legal holiday in 52 Stat. 351; 5 U.S. Code, Sec. 87a and,  "a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated and known as 'Armistice Day'."  In 1953, Al King, a shoe salesman from Emporia, Kansas and member of the American Dads of World War II, began a campaign to expand Armistice day to celebrate all veterans.  With the help of then-U.S. Rep. Ed Rees, also from Emporia, a bill for the holiday was pushed through Congress. President Dwight Eisenhower signed it into law on May 26, 1954. The name of the holiday was changed on November 8, 1954 and it has been known as Veterans Day since.  I should also note that for some reason, from 1971 to 1978, Veteran’s Day was not celebrated on November 11, but rather the fourth Monday in October.  (to give more holiday weekends under the Uniform Monday Holiday Act).  Ironically, since it moved back to November 11, the day has been largely ignored by businesses (excluding banks), schools, and  local governments, which all have also chosen to remain open. This is a shame.  Americans should honor its Veterans.   But, this is not a history or political site, this is a geek site.  Therefore, I present the top five veteran’s of future wars.  This was harder than I thought when you consider how many great shows/movies and books there are.

More after the Jump--in no particular order.

Astro Boy Review

The short version.  While nowhere near as good as other comparable movies (Cloudy, Kung Fu Panda or Pixar movies), Astroboy is a fun movie and a good way to spend an afternoon.  The long version: After the jump.
