Show Gene Colan Some Love

Gene Colan is one of the greats.  Over his career, he has worked for Marvel on Silver Surfer, Iron Man, Sub-Mariner, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Dr. Strange, Daredevil (he was on the book 81-issue string from #20-100), Howard the Duck, Iron Man and Tomb of Dracula. Especially. He has worked for DC on Batman, Detective, Silverblade, Spectre, Wonder Woman, Night Force Jemm Son of Saturn, and Nathaniel Dusk. He has also worked on independant books for Eclipse and drew several Archie titles.  In short, Gene has made a lasting impression in comics that will last for many years to come. He expertly pencilled a recent issue of Captain America #601.

Unfortunately, Gene fell ill.  Lately, he has been cancelling his convention appearances because of health reasons.  Sadly,  Hero Intiative says that Gene was hospitalized again on Monday with pneumonia in his right lung behind his heart, and possibility of infection of some fluids.

Jim McLauchlin of the Hero Intiative writes:

Gene Colan’s wife Adrienne informs us that Gene was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York early in the morning on Monday, Aug. 10 by ambulance.

All is looking okay, and best guess is that Gene might be laid up in hospital for a few days. In fact, steady improvement could get him home by late Wednesday-early Thursday. He has pneumonia in his right lung behind his heart, and possibility of infection of some fluids. Some Encephalopathy-related difficulties may be going on, too.

As positive vibes are always a nice tonic, cards, letters and well-wishes are deeply appreciated, and can be sent to:
