If you are looking for a fun, clever, action packed movie, Zombieland is the place to go.

More after the jump.

Zombieland, written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and directed by Ruben Fleischereich, follows the survivors of a zombie apocalypse.  The survivors are each named after their hometowns (to avoid emotional attachment to one another) and are Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Wichita (Emma Stone), and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin).  Here is the trailer:

The film is told from Columbus' point of view as he provides his list of rules for surviving in the zombie-infested world (for example, Rule 31: Check the back seat).  The presentation of the rules is very creative.  Think interactive Fringe.  Prior to the release of Zombieland Columbus' rules have been given their own PSAs (see below). And speaking of rules, something happens in this movie that I have never seen happen in a zombie (or horror) movie.  Of course, I am not going to say what that happening is since I don't want to spoil the movie.  I later found out that the reason this unnamed happening happened was because the script was written as a pilot for a television show.  If you are dying to know, email me at cupofgeek@gmail.com.

The survivors decide to make their way to LA and end up staying in Hollywood mansion owned by . . . Now, that would be telling.  But, I will say the cameo is brilliant (Make sure you stay through the credits for an added scene).  Eventually, they all end up at Pacific Playland for explosive final battle.

This movie hits all the right beats.  It's funny, action packed and has the right amount of romance.  But, if you are looking for a scary movie, Zombieland is not the show for you.  People obsessed on the realistic portrayol of a zombie apocalypse will be similarly disappointed.  But, fans of Shawn of the Dead will be in zombie heaven.  I expect that the movie will be quoted at parties for years to come. In fact, I'm pretty sure I heard someone suggest that it was time to "Nut up or shut up" in the lobby.
